Best time to visit Jim Corbett?
1 Answer
Jim Corbett is open almost year-round (except the monsoon closure of some zones), and the experience varies significantly by season. Here's the full breakdown:
October – February (Best Overall) The most pleasant time to visit. Temperatures range from 5–25°C, mornings are crisp and cool, and wildlife sightings are good as animals come to water sources and open grasslands. The Dhikala zone (the most prized zone) is fully open. Great for birdwatching too — migratory birds arrive in large numbers. December–January can get quite cold at night, so carry woolens.
March – May (Best for Tiger Sightings) This is arguably the best time if a tiger sighting is your primary goal. The heat (30–40°C) drives animals — including tigers — to waterholes, making them much easier to spot in the open. Vegetation thins out, visibility improves dramatically. It gets hot, but most serious wildlife enthusiasts prefer this window. Book very early as it fills up fast.
June – September (Monsoon — Avoid) The park partially closes during the monsoon. Dhikala and several other zones shut down from June 15 to October 15. Only peripheral zones like Jhirna and Sitabani remain open year-round. The jungle is lush and beautiful, but wildlife sightings are poor and leeches are a problem on trails.
Zone-wise timing matters
| Zone | Open Period |
|---|---|
| Dhikala (best zone) | Nov 15 – Jun 15 |
| Bijrani | Oct 15 – Jun 30 |
| Jhirna | Year-round |
| Sitabani (buffer) | Year-round |
| Durga Devi | Nov 15 – Jun 15 |
Sweet spot: November to March — ideal weather, Dhikala open, good wildlife activity, and a comfortable base for overnight stays inside the park. Coming from Delhi, it's a perfect long weekend escape during the winter months.
